2.3 Summer PlaySchool
We are arranging a playschool for the kids for 3 weeks (M-W-F) in the summer at The Lighthouse Special Ed School in The Hague. The summer break can be quite difficult for both the parents and the children. We are hoping this will provide much needed respite for the parents and would of course be a lot of fun for the children. The school management has been fantastic about letting us use part of the school and the playground for this program. We are getting 2 teachers and two assistants to help run the activities.

2.11 Flag Day Scheveningen (Vlaggetjesdag), 12 June
The Dutch love their herring so much that they devote a day each year to celebrating the first big catches - Scheveningen Flag Day! The coast and harbour at Scheveningen fill with a hungry crowd ready to sample the fish. Flag Day also gives local tradesmen the opportunity to display their wares, while the fishermen show off the fruits of their labour. The herring ships race back to port, where the first to arrive is awarded a cash prize (which is donated by the winning ship's captain to Greenpeace). Needless to say, Queen Beatrix is given the first barrel of the new herring catch. If you are going to sample some herring while you stroll around, it's worth knowing that the Dutch eat theirs raw, with plenty of chopped onions. Venue: Scheveningen Beach, The Hague. www.vlaggetjesdag.com

2.12 Jazz in de Gracht, 11 - 12 June
Jazz'in de gracht, a free festival, takes place on the beautiful Bierkade and Dunne Bierkadean, the so-called 'Avenue Culinaire'. What makes Jazz'in de Gracht particularly special is that the audience can stay right where they are as the stages, and the artists, come to them. On Saturday, the boats stop at four 'boat stops' for a 20 minute concert. The stops are located by the restaurants Afasika and Serengeti, between the cafés Paas and Pakschuit and at M-restaurant. As soon as a boat leaves from a stop, another one comes along to fill the space. On Friday there are three stops. On both days, the canals will be swinging to jazz and other, related music and a lovely market! Location : Bierkade and Dunne Bierkade (or Avenue Culinaire). www.jazzindegracht.nl

I applaud your efforts to organise parenting workshops, it's certainly a very worthy initiative.
