What's On September 2010

Well, hello friends and families

Stressed-Soul is back in action with loads to share with you, request from you and prompt you wonderful parents. We parents are all united by our love for our offspring AND are doing our best to give them a good future. Passionate Parenting is here to support and encourage: as you raise your precious kids in the Netherlands...

September is always a HECTIC month, the early morning rush and dizzy busy scramble to get back into school's demanding rythym. Oh, BSN and French schools can take it easy for a few more days...Lucky you!

We had a fantastic family vacation in Mallorca, my body and soul sucked up the sunshine and rest. From now on I will always go for the dinner bed & breakfast option... no grocery shopping, no chopping, no cooking, no dish-washing and after dinner mess to tidy up. That made a huge impact on the "quality" of my "lekker" lazy break: it was true fun in the sun! A real holiday. Ahhhh

Right, HUGE email follows.

An enriched yet balanced life can be achieved - learn how with Renata Hamsikova, a specialised coach and trainer of gifted children.

October 11th Communicating for Compliance and Co-operation, 19:30

1.3 New Monthly Competition

I want an article or story to put on the website that best describes the controlled chaos at home, your method of handling stressful situations with kids and your SOLUTIONS from which we can all benefit. Ideally, one page! Reply to this mail.

1.4 Co-director / Manager for Passionate Parenting
I need someone to take over and run these Passionate Parenting's community service seminars, the website and the (maybe) babysitting service. It will be a volunteer position with nice earning potential, if you have the right vision, skills set, time and energy. Reply to this mail with your CV or call me, Soul on 064 185 7773

1.5 Half to Charity
Passionate Parenting has donated more than €600 to charity from the profits of Feb - June. First, as always, to "Little Angels", the home for abused, abandoned and HIV-infected babies and to "Hearts of Hope" for an upliftment programme in rural South Africa, where teachers are trained and kids are fed at little schools. We have also bought two feeding chairs for "Nazareth House" in Cape Town, where nannies were feeding abandoned babies on their laps. Please see http://passionateparenting.nl/general/our-charities/ for more information.

3. Must know...

3.1 Soul's New Business
Can your child catch a ball? Run, chase, kick, pass, throw, jump, trap, roll, target? Do you want your little darling to be proficient in ball sports? Well, I am just getting started with launching a world-wide franchise called PLAYBALL here in The Hague. It's a brilliant sports programme where your little ones (2 - 7yrs) learn the basic building blocks for tennis, football, hockey, basketball, baseball and cricket. I will be conducting some free demonstration lessons near the British Schools on Mon Sept 13 and Thurs 16th. There are maximum 8 children per lesson, and I am starting with 2 afternoons a week (Mon & Thurs, 15:30 & 16:15) at Mariahoeve Sports Club. Cost €13 a lesson. See www.kidsplayball.nl for more info. I will be looking for coaches in 2011, email Soul if you are good with kids and proficient with balls! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

3.2 English / Dutch Bilingual School
Great progress is being made in the 2-in-1 School here in The Hague. Edwin Koopman wants the local government to agree to setting up a pure bilingual school by Sept 2011. Many Dutch & international families want bilingual education for their children: Some come from abroad and want their children to integrate in Dutch society without loosing their knowledge of the English language. Others have plans to emigrate in the future and want to prepare their children properly without isolating them from Dutch language and society. All of them find it important to prepare them at an early age for an internationalising world. A bilingual school offers that possibility
URGENT: please try to find / forward this mail to as many other (possibly interested) families as we need them to join us. We have noticed that the current number of 40 families is opening doors, but at the same time it is not enough to fill classes in the future. Read more...
Contact: The coordination is in the hands of Edwin Koopman and Sonia Robla.

4. Nice to Know...

4.1 TODAY (2 September) at Noon:
There's a new 'voice' in town!

A new English RADIO programme called 'live at noon' will feature news, views, interviews and music for English speakers in The Hague and surrounding areas. We are launching the programme at noon on Thursday, September 2, and it would be so good if you could listen and give us some feedback and suggestions. This is not limited to The Hague; friends abroad can listen to us too.

It's New Age radio and this means you can pick it up on the internet! All you need to do is to look up the local radio website; www.denhaagtotaal.nl and then click on the logo.
Happy listening! This new radio station is run by my friend Lily-Anne Stroobach.

4.2 PrinsjesDag - holiday
September 21 is a special day - all primary school children in The Hague are free from school. Queen Beatrix will get dressed up with a hat, do a tour in her gorgeous royal golden coach and wave at her Dutch folk. The procession can be seen in the Hague centre, and it starts at the Paleis Noordeinde and ends at the Binnenhof. Crowds will line the street. Many roads are blocked off to pedestrians and cyclists, so keep that in mind when you agree to meet your friends for this spectacle.

4.3 "Feel at Home in the Hague" Fair, September 19th
A great opportunity to see what is on offer in The Hague, to improve your quality of life. This year it will be held again at the city hall Atrium. Always lots to do for the kids, and great source of information and resources. Look out for the ACCESS stand's new image!

4.4 Music Lessons (6 - 17 years old)
Star Galerie is a venue of highly educated and professional musicians, who teach children from 6 years old to the middle school ages. Lessons range from beginners to advanced levels. The Star Galerie has its own piano in-house and the rest of other music instruments can be rented with "luthier" in The Hague which we can recommend. We will form an ensemble class and prepare the students for a group performance. All available music instruments must be played together to prepare the students in a concert twice or once a year. In this way parents can watch their children's development and also adds motivation to the students. All lessons will start in September.
Please call for an appointment: 06 2170 0679, (10 minutes walk from Shell Headquarters - The Hague.) Star Galerie, Borneostraat 116, The Hague

Our clients said....

I applaud your efforts to organise parenting workshops, it's certainly a very worthy initiative. I … see it as one of the most important preventative steps a community can make towards safeguarding and optimizing the well-being of children. Katherine Fortier, Child Psychologist, Regular Guest Speaker 2007 - 2011.
Another great seminar, clear, practical, professional. It was excellent! Dr Sue Southwood, UK
