Passionate Parenting's two APRIL EVENTS
“Your will be Done” – Planning for your children if you die here in NL - Mon April 19th
Every expat parent should have a Dutch will to avoid legal or tax-related problems, should the unthinkable happen. Especially, a testament, for your childrens’ sakes. In Holland, the existence of a foreign will can sometimes prove very disadvantageous when it comes to taxation. If you die while resident in the Netherlands, your entire estate will be subject to Dutch inheritance tax, no matter where your assets are. The courts will take custody of your children. Yolanda Bokhorst, (international family law specialist) of Pels Rijcken will give parents need-to-know information to get it done quickly and painlessly in a 90 minute seminar “Raising Bilingual Children” Wednesday, April 28th at 19:30
Also teaching your child Dutch, French, German, Spanish or Arabic? Multicultural, multinational, multilingual. Eowyn offers an excellent lecture on how to raise multilingual children, with all the guidelines, practicalities and important details. This 2 hour talk will answer many worrisome (language) questions for international parents considering an international creche, peuterschool or school for their children. by Eowyn Crisfield-Burr (BA TESL, MA Applied Linguistics). Cost €35 per person or €52.50 per couple. Venue: van Hogenhoucklaan 89, Den Haag (behind Bronovo Hospital) Register at http://www.passionateparenting.nl/general/next-events.php See www.passionateparenting.nl
KONINGINGEN DAG!! QUEENS DAY.... Most of you know that 30 April is a public holiday and a day for celebrating. The parties start the night before (get a babysitter and check out the vibrant streets of The Hague Centre (this will make you feel young), the babysitters will go out and party AFTER you come home (this will make you feel old)). On Friday, wear orange, paint your kids’ faces. Get ready to go bargain hunting for second-hand toys and books along Fred Hendrik laan, Riouwstraat and most small shopping centers. Really, I have bought awesome stuff for 50c (but then again, I do love a bargain). Do join in the neighbourhood street borrels or parties, you will have a chance to integrate with your dutch community. HAVE FUN!!! The American School of The Hague High School Theatre Production
The American School of The Hague High School Presents: The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni on Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17, at 19:15. Carlo Goldoni was an Italian dramatist who lived in 18th century Italy. He found himself with a group of antsy actors who were used to improvising in the famous style of Commedia Dell'Arte, rich in gags, light humour, and stock characters. So he devised the ultimate punishment for them: he wrote a script! Little did he know he was creating a great historical document, as well as a play, that would be performed again and again. Join us as Truffaldino finds himself in a hilarious kerfuffle, caught between two masters, and romantic commotion. The English language performance is suitable for all ages, and has been interpreted to reach a modern audience. Tickets: 5 Euros Students/10 Euros Adults. Tickets available in advance at the Schools' main reception or at the door. Questions email

Moms Night Out with Hearts at Home Join us on Tuesday evening, 27 April 2010 for quality mom time! This fun-filled event will feature two guest speakers, lots of laughter, plus a surprise or two. Sally Baucke is a professional comedienne, keynote speaker and emcee with over 15 years experience at keeping it clean, encouraging and hilarious! Sally will talk about today’s mom constantly being measured by her accomplishments rather than her relationships. Her workshop, Much to-do about nothing, will open your eyes and help you focus on the importance of who we ARE to those around us rather than what we DO near those around us. Every mother wants to make a difference and leave a legacy, but in reality, most days we’d be happy if we leave “sane”. With humor and sincerity, Sue Heimer will share how you can make an impact in the lives of your children and for generations to come. To register or for more information: http://www.hearts-at-home.org/ Venue: Van der Valk Hotel Den Haag-Wassenaar, Zijdeweg 54, 2245 BZ, Wassenaar. Please send an e-mail to

I applaud your efforts to organise parenting workshops, it's certainly a very worthy initiative. I … see it as one of the most important preventative steps a community can make towards safeguarding and optimizing the well-being of children.
