Roll / throw and chase balls

Throw and catch balls / balloons / bean bags

Ride scooter

Attempts at jumping and hopping on one leg

Do somersaults and rolls

Hold own weight when hanging from a monkey bar*

Walk on tip-toes
Even a few sit-ups
Balance for a moment on one foot

Teach “one-footed” skip and a gallop

Inner tyre tubes: to bounce on, roll inside, crawl through, roll and push

Hula Hoops – for running in and out

Trampoline – jumping and bouncing

Targets – throw things at (basket ball net from old wire hanger)

Goals – for kicking or batting into

Skateboard – to “surf”: lie on tummy and push

Bean bag cushion: to jump into, to sink into Bubbles for blowing

Old ironing board – as a RAMP, prop it up at a low angle and allow child to balance up / down.

Rocking chairs, swivel chairs, chairs on wheels

Punching bag – to develop strength, for hand-eye coordination, express emotions

Hats and other dress up items

Balloons in the air – beware of choking!!

Large pieces of cloth: use as hideaway / house by draping over table or pull your child on.

Mirrors – for body awareness

Broom handle – to use as a pull up bar or a hobby horse

Sand pit – sterilize by adding coarse salt

Tennequoit rings: for catching and throwing
Ropes / strings: to make “roads”, walk on, jump over, make patterns, circles & squares, for skipping and hanging items on (always supervise!) Furniture obstacle course: climb under and over, pillows and cushions to jump / tumble on and hide under.


Washing baskets: fantasy play as boat / car or train. 

Place mats: stepping stones across crocodile river
