This is two half-day courses from 10am – 1pm, with Tina Keogh of Great Expectations, on Saturdays 16 and 23 January, in The Hague. Alternatively, a full day (10am - 4:30pm) on 30 January. Cost €80.
PART 1: Emergency Life Support
- Communication and casualty care – how do we talk to children in a manner that inspires confidence and reduces anxiety?
- Primary Survey - steps to help you stay calm and assess your priority of treatment.
- Unconscious casualty – what are the causes? Learn the correct recovery position for a baby and a small child.
- Choking – key recognition symptoms, causes and appropriate treatment for babies and children.
- Resuscitation – recognising when breathing is absent. Learn how to inflate casualties’ lungs using rescue breaths. Learn to perform chest compressions for both infant and child in accordance with the latest European guidelines.
- Where do I get emergency help in The Netherlands?
PART 2: Basic First Aid
- What should be in my first-aid kit?
- Minor cuts and severe bleeding - how do I know my bandage is effective? What should I use?
- Treatment for burns - when is it necessary to seek medical help?
- Sprains and strains – how do I treat them? Fractures (broken bones) – recognising the symptoms. When should you move the casualty?
- Allergies and asthma – recognising when you need to seek medical attention. What can you do whilst waiting for help?
- Head injury and concussion – what is the difference
- Febrile convulsions – treating a child with a high temperature
- Meningitis – symptoms and getting help.
